The Caravan Writers guild dinner and Children's Charity KidScan

The Caravan writers guild annual dinner was hosted by new chairman, Chris Apperley on Wednesday 17th October. The dinner took advantage of extra space at the newly refurbished golf club, with 104 guests!

Guest of honour was Emma Pawluk, chief fundraiser from children’s cancer charity, Kidscan. The Guild is delighted that Chris has chosen Kidscan as his Chairman’s charity. It was first chosen by Terry Owen, when he became chairman in 2014, and continued by Andrew Ditton, when he took over in 2016. Since then the Guild has raised donations amounting to £11,505.50.

But the fund raising did not stop there! A futher £1,140 was generated from the Chairman’s prize raffle, held at the dinner. The guild have thanked the guests for their generosity;

'A warm thanks to all those who donated so generously, especially those who donated some lovely prizes'

Kidscan Children’s Cancer Research is a Salford-based charity that funds and manages research into new and improved treatments for children with cancer. Cancer is the leading cause of death in children in the UK. Sadly between 2-3 out of every 10 children in Britain diagnosed with cancer will not survive to adulthood, 25% of children diagnosed won’t make it to their 30th birthday. Many of the children who do survive, suffer life-long, life-limiting side effects caused by the treatments used to cure them.  Kidscan are one of the only charities in the UK solely dedicated to combating children's cancer. They want to ensure every child diagnosed with cancer survive and thrive through to adulthood.

Kidscan receive no statutory funding, but with the contributions from the public, volunteers and businesses they fund research to develop new treatments that not only cure children with cancer, but also prevent the side effects of current treatments such learning difficulties, mobility issues and infertility.

What a wonderful event that not only supports our industry, but donates so much to such a worthy cause!

Thank you Caravan Writers guild, until next time!
